Dollar Dance

The last couple of weeks, ever since I went crazy hungry, I have been stocking up on more wholesome and filling snacks and increased my raw veggie intake.

All of this has increased the cost of groceries.

This has decreased my overall happiness and made me generally walk around like a huffing bull (I might be exaggerating) at the astronomical cost of organic meats and fresh fruits and veggies.

This also makes others in my life unhappy because: 2) grumpy people are not fun to be around, b) people who spend too much at the grocery store have to stay in because they spent their entertainment budget on a fresh salad mix.

I have tried clipping coupons, but this has not really been very effective because b) I don’t buy very much non-descript blue punch and b) shaving 50 cents from the grocery bill while expending two hours of effort = waste of time.

Does it make me crazy that I still do it?

Don’t answer that.

Regardless, my grocery bill for the last couple of weeks has been just plain scary.

This week, I vowed to keep to about half my normal budget (just to make me feel better). It was $10 less than half of the half I wanted to spend.

Monday: Skinny Tater Tot Casserole, Tosses Salad, Mixed Vegetable Medley (frozen)

Tuesday: Tuna Noodle Casserole (gross, Picasso fends for self. Question: How is this the casserole he prefers above all else? Question: How is this single dish that he eats with fish? Question: Why does the smell of this never go away? Question: Why )

Wednesday: Spaghetti with Meatballs (frozen from last batch) and Texas Toast

Thursday:  Pigs in a Blanket, Sweet Potato Fries, and Corn

Friday: Party

Saturday: Cinnamon Rolls (frozen from Easter) and Turkey Sausage (frozen, previous); Soup and grilled cheese sandwiches; Meat Loaf, Mashed Potatoes, Green Peas, Carrots

Take That Grocery Bill.

Whup, I gotta go, the 80’s called and it wants its menu back.

Here, in case you are crazy like I am:

Stoneyfield — organic Greek yogurt and other dairy products

Horizon Dairy— Organic milk products

Smart Source — general manufacturer’s coupons

Coupons.com — general manufacturer’s coupons

Laura’s Lean Beef — Organic Beef

P&G Products — They make everything. Their big coupon book goes out in April for the year, so check it out to see if you qualify.

Affluent Pauper — Here are free samples and links for coupons. This is serious, people.

Otherwise, I suggest a) creating another email just for coupons so that our regular email is not filled with junk and b) looking up the brands you use most often and seeing if they specifically offer any promotions, most do if you sign up for a news letter (which comes with more coupons).

Happy Saving Dollars
